CORPORAL HAROLD STEADMAN killed in France.
Mrs. Charles Steadman, of Brunswick, received word from the War Department yesterday announcing the death of her son, Corporal Harold Steadman in France. He was killed in action October 14. His father, who is a brakeman on the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, was on duty when the telegram came.
Young Steadman was 18 years old and a member of Company A. He enlisted shortly after the war broke out when but seventeen years old, and went with the local company to Anniston, Ala. He sailed for France about a year ago and for some weeks had been in the thick of the fight.
He was well-known in this city and Brunswick and was highly regarded by a wide circle of friends. Before entering the service he was employed by the railroad as a machinist. He possessed exemplary habits and, although very anxious to join the service, did not enlist until he obtained the consent of his parents. A memorial will be held in St. Francis Catholic church, Brunswick, Monday morning a 8 o'clock.
