Howard Paul "Buck" Oden, 81, of Brunswick, Md., died Friday, November 18, 2005 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born December 19, 1923 in Brunswick, he was the son of the late William "Pete" Oden and Bertha Hammond Oden. He was a retired boiler maker with the B & O Railroad and a retired security guard with the IRS in Martinsburg, W.Va. He was a member of VFW Post 10421, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1582 and Steadman-Kennan Post 96 of the American Legion, all of Brunswick. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Betty Ann Oden at home; two daughters, Kathy Dinterman and husband Charles Jr. of Knoxville and Mary Lidie and husband David of Hagerstown; one son, William "Artie" Oden and wife Karen "Poppy" of Brunswick; one sister, Janie E. Groves of Charles Town, W.Va.; six grandchildren, Paula Dinterman, Wendy Remsburg, Jeff Oden, Johnny Winpigler, Michael Winpigler and Angela Lidie; eight great-grandchildren; and special friends Bobby and Frances Eagle of Brunswick.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Paul Robert Oden; and three sisters, Frances Darr, Ruby Reed and Catherine Landis.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 21, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the John T. Williams Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick, Md., with the Rev. Edward Hartman officiating. Interment will be in St. Pauls Parish  Cemetery, Point of Rocks. Pallbearers will be Johnny Winpigler, Michael Winpigler, Jeff Oden, Randy Dinterman, Bobby Remsburg and Charles "Jr." Dinterman.
