Lloyd B. "Pat" Murphy, 87, Burkittsville, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown. He was the husband of Helen McGowan Murphy, who died March 23, 2008.

Born in Frederick Sept. 2, 1921, he was a son of the late Baxter and Norma Trout Murphy. He was employed as a truck driver with Ideal Farms and then Dairy Maid in Frederick until his retirement, and then worked as a courier with F&M Bank. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Burkittsville, and was an Army veteran in World War II serving in the following theaters: Tunisia, Central Europe, Sicilian, Normandy, Northern France, and Ardennes Rhineland.

He is survived by a daughter, Brenda K. House and husband, David, of Middletown; two granddaughters, Amy E. House and Katie A. House; and a brother, Bernard Murphy and wife, Polly, of Frederick.

He was predeceased by siblings, Leonard Murphy, Estella Stoker and Catherine Snider Bruchey.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, at the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St., Middletown. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, from St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Burkittsville.

There will also be a viewing one hour prior to the church service on Tuesday. Rev. Kimberly Nunberg, his pastor, will officiate. Interment will be made in the Locust Valley Bible Church cemetery, Middletown.
