Mr. John D. "Poon" Lewis Sr., 80, of Brunswick, died
Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at
Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the
late Betty Jane Lewis.
Born May 7, 1924, in
Brunswick, he was the son of the late Harry L. Lewis
and the late Edna J. Thompson Lewis.
He was in the U.S. Navy and served during World War
II.
He was a member of the American Legion in Brunswick,
and he worked on the railroad in Brunswick
for 42 years. He enjoyed baseball and coached Little
League and took them to the state and regional
playoffs.
He is survived by three children, John Douglas Lewis
Jr. and wife, Gloria, of Jefferson, George Allan Lewis
and wife, Lisa, of Brunswick, and Debora J. Painter of
Brunswick; four grandchildren, Jason C. Lewis, John J.
Lewis and wife, Regina, LeEllen Lewis and Lana Lewis;
and one sister Theresa V. Johnson.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry
"Sparky" Lewis and Mason Lee Lewis; and one sister,
Madiline Lewis.
The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral
Home, 1100 N. Maple Ave., Brunswick, on Thursday, June
24, 2004, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services
will be held 11 a.m., Friday, June 25, at the funeral
home.
Burial will be in Park Heights Cemetery, Brunswick.

United Methodist Church, Ninth and Park avenues,
Brunswick, Md.
