Mr. Harry O. Gosnell Jr., 83, of Brunswick, died Sunday, August 5, 2007, at Northampton Manor in Frederick.

Born on September 27, 1923, in Frederick County, he was the son of the late Ethel Lloyd. He was the husband of the late Pauline E. (Bruchey) Gosnell, who died June 26, 1992. They were married for 44 years.

Mr. Gosnell's memberships included AARP, VFW Post #1936, American Legion #0211, Amvets Post #10, Moose, Brunswick Lodge #1582, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Brunswick #1136 and a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He was a technical sergeant with the U.S. Air Force during World War II. The Liberator Engineer-Gunner, completed 40 combat missions in the South Pacific and was wounded twice by Japanese aerial gunners, once over Rabaul and another time over Yap. He obtained a small measure of revenge by shooting down a Japanese fighter over Truk. He was awarded the Purple Heart with one cluster, the Air Medal, with seven Oak Leaf Clusters and the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon with three battle stars.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. The Rev. Lloyd Fuss will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Gosnell's honor to the American Cancer Society 1393 Progress Way, Suite 908, Eldersburg, MD 21784. Arrangements are being handled by Stauffer Funeral Home
