Education

Brunswick High School

If you were in the service - Branch - Period of service - Where served etc.

Joned MD National Guard after graduation, and served thru 1954 (while working on B&ORR). At about that time ('54) a lengthy furlough occurred, and I transferred to active duty for a periof of 6 mos. to attend an infantry service school (Ft. Benning, GA) for additional training in my NG MOS field. Near the end of THAT time, my regular Selective Service No. came up in the draft, and after a brief "delay enroute" back to home, In entered the regular Army for a 2-yr. stint. Was inducted at Ft. Knox, KY and then sent to Camp Gordon, GA for completion of 10 wks. of basic. Thought I could use my primary MOS to get stationed at Aberdeen, MD (Weapons, etc.) but they were over their quota, so went to Ft. Lee, VA for Supply Training. That led to an assignment to the Signal Corps, and a brief stint at Ft. Devens, MA, where I got caught up in a military training exercise that entailed running all over the state of Louisiana (from the Signal Corps base o f operations at Ft. Polk, NC). After that, I put in for an overseas assignment (trying for the Far East because I thought some of the old gang were over there), but was sent to Crailsheim, Germany for the remaining year of my active service.  I was mustered out at Ft. Dix, NJ in 1957.

Briefly What Happened Since Leaving School

Worked at plants in Frederick (1) Price Electric, (2) Frederick Optical, (3) as a Machinists Apprentice (B&ORR Shops), (4) Surveyors helper with US Coast Geodetic Survey (When Dulles Airport areas was being surveyed), (5) US Army (see aabove), (6) Car Repair Helper (B&O Car yards), (7) Corpos of Engineers (Berryville, VA District) as peripheral equipment and computer operator. Then for the next 27 years, at IRS as (8) Computer Operator, (9) Operations Shift Manager, and (10) Systems Analyst and Programmer.

I have been married to Dianne for 43 years.  During the first few years at IRS, we moved to Winchester, VA.  Retired in 1989 with 33 plus years of Federal Service. Since then, after a few months of actual retirement, took a (parttime) job locally with an office cleaning and maintenance company just to keep busy (have worked with them for almost 11 yrs.)  My wife has been employed as a Food Service worker in the Frederick Co. (VA) School system for the last 30 yrs.  It's been a busy, busy, time, and I wouldn't have wanted to have missed it for anything.
